There are three account types on MoveMentors and they look pretty similar from the outside. Pick the one that matches the dominant way you will use the platform. You can email us to switch later, but every type has its own onboarding flow and its own dashboard, so getting it right at signup saves you redoing work.

Student
Pick student if your goal is to find classes near you and book them.
You get a clean directory of mentors, studios, and individual classes, a saved-classes list, filters for category, distance, price, time of day, and the ability to book any public class on the platform. You can leave reviews after class. You can ask mentors directly about private sessions.
Students do not pay MoveMentors anything. The price you see on a class is what you pay the host directly.
Pick student even if you might teach occasionally. If you teach a class once a year for a friend's studio, you do not need a mentor account. Just keep using your student account. You can always upgrade later.
Mentor
Pick mentor if you teach your own classes under your own name. This is the most common new-host type on MoveMentors.
You get:
- A public profile at
movementors.com/<your-city>/<your-slug>with bio, photos, certifications, locations, accepted payment methods, and your full class schedule - A class creation wizard with recurring schedules, capacity, add-ons (mat rental, etc), pricing in your local currency, and per-class cancellation policy
- A unified bookings dashboard with status tracking, payment confirmation, no-show marking, and direct client messaging
- A built-in CRM that tracks every client who has booked with you, their booking history, lifetime value, last visit, and notes
- Earnings and expenses tracking with cash and Stripe reconciliation, payout history, and CSV exports for your accountant
- Stripe Connect for instant card payments OR manual payment methods (bank transfer, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, cash, crypto) if you prefer to handle payments yourself
- Optional calendar sync to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar so your MoveMentors classes show up alongside your other commitments
- Private session requests routed through the platform (the requester pays the way you agree; we just facilitate the introduction)
- The MCP integration so AI assistants can manage your schedule and bookings on your behalf if you connect them
Mentors can also be co-listed on studio classes (see co-listing with studios).
The tradeoff: you are responsible for the relationship with your students. You set the cancellation policy, you decide whether to refund, you confirm bookings. We give you the tools but stay out of the way.
Studio
Pick studio if you operate a venue and run multiple teachers (employed or contracted) under your business name.
You get everything mentors get plus:
- Multi-location management (Pro+ tiers). One profile, several physical addresses, classes attached to specific locations.
- Mentor roster. You can invite real platform mentors to co-list with your studio (they accept or decline; if they accept, the class appears on both your profile and theirs and counts toward both their stats and yours). You can also create custom mentors: a name, photo, and short bio of someone who teaches at your studio but does not have their own MoveMentors profile. Custom mentors appear as credits on classes without any approval workflow.
- Embed widget (Premium tier). A small JavaScript snippet you paste into your own website so visitors can browse and book your classes without leaving your site.
- Featured placement on the public studios directory (Pro+ tiers).
- Higher rate-limit + priority support during peak booking windows.
The studio dashboard hides the personal-account widgets like "My bookings as a client", "My subscription as a student", etc. It focuses on the business side: who is teaching when, where, for how much, and how is it being paid for.
Studio accounts cannot also be students
A studio account is a business account. If a studio owner wants to book classes at other studios as a person, sign up a separate student account on a separate email. We may add a "switch account" feature in the future, but today they are distinct.
Edge cases
I am a solo instructor but I have multiple regular locations. Mentor accounts have one address attached to the profile. If you teach at three places, list the city you anchor in and put the other addresses on the individual classes. If you really run a multi-location operation under your own name, the studio account fits better than mentor.
I run a tiny pop-up collective with two other teachers. Three options:
- The collective registers as a studio. All three of you appear as custom mentors (no individual profiles).
- The collective registers as a studio. All three of you also have individual mentor profiles. Classes can be co-listed.
- One of you registers as a mentor and the others are listed as collaborators via a class note. This is the lightest setup but you lose the per-mentor profile.
The right answer depends on whether the collective is more brand than venue, or vice versa. Most collectives go with option 2 if the individuals also teach solo.
I want to teach occasionally for fun, do I need a mentor account? If you are running one or two classes a year, no. Borrow a friend's studio account, or be co-listed as a custom mentor by a studio that hosts you. Mentor accounts are designed for people who run classes regularly enough to justify the setup time.
Switching account types later
Email support@movementors.com with your account email and the type you want. We will switch it within one business day. We do this manually for two reasons:
- It involves data migration (different profile rows live on different tables).
- We use the conversation to make sure you are not picking the wrong type by accident.
Next steps
- Convinced you want to be a student? You are already done. Go find a class.
