Most movement classes need some kit. The class detail page tells you exactly what is provided, what you should bring, and what you can rent.
Three sections on a class page
What is included
Things the host supplies for free. Typical items:
- Yoga mats
- Blocks, bolsters, straps
- Resistance bands
- Mat pilates equipment (small ball, magic circle)
- Towels (rare; depends on the studio)
- Water
- A changing area / lockers
The class page lists each item explicitly so there are no surprises.
What to bring
Things you are expected to provide:
- Water bottle (always a safe bet)
- Hair tie
- A change of clothes / something to throw on after class
- Yoga blocks if you have a strong preference (some hosts let you bring your own)
- A small towel for sweat
If you are doing something more involved like sound healing or partner work, the host will be specific in the class description.
Equipment needed
A bullet list of items used during the class. This overlaps with "What is included" and "What to bring" but is more of a class description: "we use blocks, a strap, and a bolster" tells you the shape of the practice.
For first-time visitors to a studio, ask the host (via the inquiry form, if available) what is provided versus what to bring. Most hosts answer within a day.
Add-ons
Add-ons are optional paid extras you can buy at booking time. Common add-ons:
- Mat rental ($1-3 USD typical). Cheap, no commitment, useful if you do not own a mat or you are travelling.
- Towel rental ($1-2 USD).
- Workshop materials (booklet, handout). Pricing varies.
- Class recording (rare, since we are an in-person platform, but some workshops sell a recording of the talk portion).
- Branded merchandise that the host pre-orders for a workshop participant.
How to add them
On the class detail page, the booking sidebar shows the add-on list below the seat count. Each add-on has a checkbox or a quantity stepper. Toggle them on and the total at the bottom updates.
Add-ons are per-add-on, not per-seat, unless the host explicitly configures them as per-seat (rare; mostly for things like rental that obviously scales with bodies). If you book 4 seats and the class has a $3 mat rental as per-seat, the total adds $12. If it is configured as per-booking, it adds $3 regardless of seats.
Charging
Add-ons are charged with the booking. If you pay by Stripe, add-ons are bundled into the same Stripe charge. If you pay by manual method, add-ons are added to the total in the host's payment instructions.
Cancelling and add-ons
If you cancel within the policy window, add-ons are refunded along with the seat price. If you cancel outside the policy window, neither the class nor the add-ons are refunded by default; the host may grant a partial refund at their discretion.
Not refundable in some cases
Some add-ons are non-refundable even within the policy window. Example: a workshop booklet the host has already printed for you. The class page will flag this explicitly: "Booklet is non-refundable after order placed".
Mat hygiene
Studio-supplied mats get used by a lot of bodies. Most studios spray and wipe between sessions, but if you are sensitive, the choices are:
- Bring your own mat (always free, no booking step needed).
- Pay $1-3 for a freshly cleaned rental mat from the host.
- Use a towel over the studio mat.
For private one-on-one sessions, mats are typically wiped clean before each session.
What if the listed equipment is not provided on the day
This happens. A studio runs out of bolsters because the previous class was busy, or the supplier was late. Tell the host on arrival; they will improvise. If you booked specifically because the equipment was listed (e.g. you wanted to use a Pilates reformer) and they do not have it on the day, that is grounds for a partial or full refund.
If the host refuses to make it right and the equipment was load-bearing for the class, dispute the booking.
Common questions
Can I add an add-on after booking? Not via the platform directly. Tell the host on arrival; many will let you rent a mat on the day in exchange for cash, even if you did not pre-order one.
Are add-ons taxed differently from the class price? On the platform, the price and add-ons are aggregated and charged as one. Tax treatment is the host's responsibility based on their local jurisdiction. The receipt itemises the breakdown.
Can I bring my own mat to avoid the rental fee? Yes, always. Bringing your own equipment is the simplest path.
Do hosts charge a deposit on rentals? No. Mat rentals are flat fees, paid at booking. You return the mat at the end of class.
