Two practices that change the way you live

Meditation and breathwork are simple in description and life-changing in practice. They train the attention, regulate the nervous system, and give you a steady place to return to when life gets noisy. On MoveMentors you will find teachers across the major contemplative traditions and breath methodologies, vetted for their training and the years they have actually practiced.

Meditation styles vary widely. Vipassana and mindfulness focus on observing what arises without reacting. Loving-kindness practices direct attention towards specific intentions. Concentration practices anchor on the breath or a mantra. Each style produces different effects, and a good teacher will help you choose one that fits your temperament and goals.

Breathwork is more active. Pranayama is the classical yogic study of breath, with techniques ranging from calming to energising. Wim Hof Method combines deep breathing with cold exposure for stress resilience. Holotropic and conscious connected breathing work with longer sessions and can produce strong emotional or somatic releases.

If you are starting out, ten minutes a day of guided meditation is enough to feel a difference within a few weeks. If you have been sitting for years, a teacher can help you work through plateaus and refine the subtler aspects of the practice.

Who it is for

Who meditation and breathwork are for

  • Anyone navigating chronic stress, anxiety, or a busy nervous system
  • Professionals who need a daily reset that does not require equipment or a change of clothes
  • Students of yoga or martial arts who want to deepen the internal side of their practice
  • People working with insomnia, racing thoughts, or post-burnout recovery
  • Anyone curious about contemplative traditions, with or without a religious context

Why practice

What a regular practice builds

Calmer nervous system

Both meditation and slow breathwork shift the body into parasympathetic rest. Heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol all respond over a few weeks of practice.

Sharper focus

Training attention is a transferable skill. Students consistently report better concentration, less reactivity, and clearer decision-making at work and at home.

Better sleep

A short evening practice signals the body to wind down. Sleep onset, sleep quality, and morning energy all tend to improve with consistency.

Emotional resilience

Meditation teaches you to notice emotions without being run by them. Over months and years, this becomes one of the most useful skills a person can develop.

Frequently asked

Common questions about Meditation and Breathwork

  • I have tried apps and could not stick with meditation. Will working with a teacher help?

Often, yes. A teacher tailors the practice to your temperament, holds you accountable, and helps you work through plateaus or resistance. Many students find one-to-one sessions are what makes the practice finally stick.

  • What is the difference between meditation and breathwork?

Meditation is primarily a practice of attention. Breathwork uses specific breathing patterns to influence the nervous system directly. They overlap a lot, and many teachers offer both.

  • Is breathwork safe?

Most slow and balanced breathwork is very safe. Stronger active techniques (holotropic, Wim Hof, conscious connected) are not advised for people with serious cardiovascular conditions, epilepsy, or during pregnancy. Always tell your teacher about your medical history.

  • How long are typical sessions?

Beginner meditation sessions are often 30 to 45 minutes including instruction. Breathwork sessions can run from 30 minutes for a quick reset to 90 minutes for deeper work.

  • Do I need to follow a religion to meditate?

No. Most meditation taught on MoveMentors is secular, drawing on contemplative traditions but presented in a way that does not require any belief system.

  • Are MoveMentors meditation teachers qualified?

Yes. Every teacher uploads their training (MBSR, MMTCP, Buddhist lineage certifications, breathwork facilitation certifications, etc.) and we review their credentials before approving the profile.
