You can rent out a studio room to visiting teachers who run their own classes. On /studio/locations you set a rental fee per session or per hour, choose who can rent and set the room's opening hours. Teachers then send requests that you approve in /studio/rental-requests. MoveMentors takes no commission on rental fees, on any plan.
Booking a slot is not available yet
Today you can switch rentals on, receive requests and approve teachers. Approved teachers can't yet book and pay for a slot in your room from your studio calendar. Until they can, agree dates and payment with them directly.
Before you start
- Your studio needs Stripe connected, because rental fees are paid by card into your studio's Stripe account. See how Stripe Connect works.
- Rental settings are per room, on locations of the studio type.
Set up a room for rent
Open Locations
Go to Locations in your studio sidebar and find the room.
Click Rent out this space
The rental settings for that room open.
Switch rentals on and set the fee
Tick Make this space available to rent, enter your Rental fee and Currency, and choose whether to Charge per session or per hour. Per-hour fees are rounded up to whole hours.
Choose who can rent
Pick one of the options below. If teachers can request or rent from your public page, also choose a minimum verification level.
Add house rules and opening hours
Use House rules for equipment notes, access details and anything a renter should know. Set the room's Operating hours; rentals have to fit inside them. If you never set hours, the room counts as open from 6am to 10pm.
Save
Click Save settings. The room's button now reads Space rental on. Edit terms.
Who can rent

For the two public options, pick a Minimum verification level:
- None (any account).
- Verified email (the default).
- Approved certification: the teacher has at least one certification approved by our team.
- Verified ID: the teacher has verified their identity with Stripe. Only teachers on a paid teacher plan can do this, so this level rules out teachers on the Free plan.
What teachers see
Your public studio page shows a Rent this space section with each rentable room, its fee, and whether teachers request or can rent directly. Teachers can find studios with rooms to rent at /studios?rentable=1.
Answering requests
New requests arrive in Rental requests in your sidebar, and we email you when one comes in.
Each request shows the teacher's name and photo, their city, whether they have a verified ID or an approved certification, the room, when they asked and their message. Click Approve or Reject, and add a note if you like; the teacher sees it.
When you approve, the teacher joins your instructor roster as a renter.
Fees and payments
Rental fees are paid by card on Stripe's checkout page, straight into your studio's Stripe account. MoveMentors takes no commission; Stripe's usual processing fee applies. Class payments from the renter's own students go to the renter, not to you.
Cancelling a rental
Upcoming paid rentals are listed in Rental requests, each with a Cancel rental button.
- If you cancel, the renter gets a full refund and the slot frees up.
- If the renter cancels, their refund follows your studio's cancellation policy: Flexible (full refund up to 24 hours before), Moderate (full refund up to 48 hours before, then 50% until 24 hours before) or Strict (full refund up to 7 days before, then 50% until 24 hours before). There is no refund inside 24 hours.
Common questions
Do I need a paid plan to rent out my space? No. Space rentals are included on every studio plan, Free included. See studio plans.
Can I charge different fees for different rooms? Yes. Each room has its own rental settings.
Can two sessions end up in the same room at the same time? No. Two sessions can't overlap in the same room, and sessions outside the room's opening hours are blocked.
